Professor Nick Talley Visits Singapore

Professor Nick Talley arrived in Singapore on September 1st, and the next day was very warmly welcomed by A/Prof. Sunny Wong at the Lee Kong Chan School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. He had productive meetings with researchers from the Centre for Microbiome Medicine who presented their current projects including excellent work on the oral microbiome and diet-microbiome interactions.

Later he delivered a seminar to the research team and Department of Gastroenterology entitled: Gastroduodenal disorders 2026: Rome V and beyond. He discussed the exciting work from Newcastle unlocking the pathogenesis of functional dyspepsia, a disorder of gut-brain (and brain-gut) interaction where food-microbe interactions likely play a key role.

The next day he met with the new Director of the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) at NTU, and his good friend, Professor Emad El Omar, who was previously Professor of Medicine at UNSW. He toured the Experimental Medicine building and met with mid-career researchers doing fascinating work in metabolomics and cell biology.

Nick states that “there are exciting possibilities for new collaborations with the NHMRC Center of Research Excellence in Newcastle, and as I continue my sabbatical period here over the next few weeks will work to further build those links.”
