CRETGH Welcomes International Visiting Academic Professor Tim Vanuytsel, MD PhD

The Centre of Research Excellence in Transforming Gut Heath (CRETGH) is excited to welcome Invited International Visiting Academic Professor Tim Vanuytsel, MD PhD, in early November this year.

Prof. Tim Vanuytsel graduated in 2007 from Leuven University Medical School, and obtained his PhD degree in biomedical sciences in 2014 with a thesis on the role and mechanisms of intestinal permeability in functional gastrointestinal disorders. He had worked as a researcher in the lab of Prof. Terez Shea-Donohue at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (USA) in 2011.

Prof. Vanuytsel currently holds a position as a consultant gastroenterologist in Leuven University Hospitals with a clinical focus on intestinal failure, clinical nutrition and functional gastrointestinal disorders. He is the co-founder and medical director of the Leuven Intestinal Failure and Transplantation center (LIFT).

Tim Vanuytsel is an assistant professor at the University of Leuven and his research interests include the pathophysiology and treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders and intestinal failure and transplantation. He has published over 105 original research articles and reviews in international peer-reviewed journals on both clinical and basic science aspects of gastroenterology.

Prof. Vanuytsel will be in Newcastle as a guest of the CRETGH from November 3rd to 7th 2025, and will be presenting at AGIRA Day at HMRI, Newcastle on Wednesday November 5th.  We eagerly anticipate this visit from Prof. Vanuytsel and look forward to this opportunity for collaboration and exchange of ideas.
