Dr Emily Hoedt and Professor Nicholas Talley are featured in Med Volume 7, Issue 1- the 5th anniversary edition of the journal- with “Toward a personalized diet-microbiome strategy in inflammatory bowel disease: Matching donor, diet, and patient”.
Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) plus dietary change to restore the imbalance of an individual’s microbiome to relieve disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease has not been established but has promise. “While technically FMT is simple to do, efficacy remains variable, and the factors influencing clinical response are not fully understood”, they state. In this commentary, they suggest the need to embrace a more nuanced, personalized approach, one that considers microbial functionality, dietary context, and host compatibility.
