The International Conference on Diet and Activity Methods (ICDAM) 2025 is currently taking place from April 27-30 in Toronto, Canada. Organised by The International Society for Diet and Activity Methods (ISDAM), the conference supports the advancement of diet and physical activity assessment methods by providing opportunities for sharing the latest research within the international community. Two of our CRE researchers have been selected to share their research at this prestigious conference- Dr Kerith Duncanson and Nicole Simm.
Nicole was granted the Immune Health travel award to assist with transport to the international conference, and as a first time attendee and presenter, is “excited to connect with other researchers working in a similar space in a global setting. The great thing about a conference focussed on methodology is that it brings together people from a vast range of research topics, so I hope to learn about areas that are completely new to me!”
She is also a finalist for the trainee presenter award, which will be announced at the end of the conference – and Nicole has stated that “regardless of the outcome, I’m thrilled to have such interest shown in my research… My background is in human nutrition, with a passion for how diet influences your mental well-being. This led me to the gut microbiome field and my PhD, which is looking at interactions between dietary intake and gut microbiota in stressed cohorts. Part of my research is exploring different approaches to measuring diet for microbiota interactions – which is perfect for a conference focussed on diet and activity methods like ICDAM.”
Nicole hopes to highlight the gaps in dietary assessment methods in the gut microbiota field and add to the process that is needed to develop guidelines for methodology in this space, and hopes attendees will be able to relate to her presentation and start to question how they look at dietary intake in their areas of research. “I’m also very keen to get feedback and advice from a group of international experts and build connections with researchers that I could connect with post-PhD.”
Alongside Nicole, Dr Kerith Duncanson will debut at the conference this year with a poster presentation “Novel methods to analyse microbe-accessible nutrients in diet-microbiome research”.
The CRE team wishes Kerith and Nicole every success with their presentations at the conference today and congratulates Nicole on her well-deserved award and finalist position.
